Night vision monocular-Part two

2019-07-24

Today I would like to share some key factors for night vision devices.

Key factors for night vision devices:

1. Photocathode Sensitivity:

Photocathode Sensitivity indicates the number that photoelectric cathode convert photon to electron. The higher is the value, the more electron can we obtain, the better is the monocular. The product with Photocathode Sensitivity value less than 1600 is not recommended.

2. FOV(Field of view)

The field of view (FoV) is the extent of the observable world that is seen at any given moment. In the case of optical instruments or sensors it is a solid angle through which a detector is sensitive to electromagnetic radiation. Generally, FOV is 40 degree of the night vision devices

3. Halo

This parameter indicates the distance between photoelectric cathode and micro channel plate. Night vision devices performs very well for strong visible light if the value is low. Night vision devices are not recommended if value less than 0.7.

4. EBI (Equivalent Background Illumination)

Night vision devices performance under total darkness condition throughly depends on this parameter. The lower is EBI value, the better performance is the night vision devices under full darkness condition. EBI value less than 1 is generation 3 night vision device standard.
