The working principe of night vision


The low-light night vision device uses the low level of natural light reflected by night targets, such as night sky light, stellar-moon light, atmospheric glow, and so on, and amplifies it to hundreds of thousands of times, so that it is suitable for naked eyes to carry out reconnaissance, observation, aiming, vehicle driving and other battlefield operations at night.


Low-light night vision equipment is based on the physical principle of the photoelectric effect. Photons enter the night vision device and carry on the metal plate to produce photoelectrons. These electrons then pass through a thin plate secured in front of the screen, which has millions of microchannels (that is, millions of pixels). When the electrons enter the microchannels, they multiply and are projected onto the screen for imaging.


The low-light night vision device can only work at night, and it is a passive way of working, so it can hide itself better, and it can be used for departments engaged in special work, such as military, criminal investigation, anti-drug, anti-smuggling, night monitoring, security applications, etc.


But to better understand the low-light night vision device, we must know the "image intensifier tube".


In short, in night vision imaging, weak natural light radiates through the target surface, enters the night vision instrument, focuses on the photopolar surface of the image intensifier under the action of strong light force objective lens (which coincides with the rear focal surface of the objective lens), and excites photoelectrons. The photoelectrons are accelerated, focused and imaged under the action of the electronic optical system inside the image intensifier, bombarding the fluorescent screen of the image intensifier at a very high speed, and excite a strong enough visible light, so as to transform a distant target illuminated only by weak natural light into a visible light image suitable for human eyes. After the eyepiece further magnification, achieve more effective visual observation.
