Night vision goggles, as its name suggests, helps people see clearly in the dark at night. Night vision devices are divided into three categories: low-light night vision goggles, infrared night vision goggles and laser night vision goggles. Today I’d like to introduce the low-light night vision goggles (through its working principle, applicable environment) to you.

A. Working Principle

Low-light night vision goggles includes four main parts: high power objective lens, image enhancement tube, eyepiece, power supply. In terms of optical principles, low-light night vision goggles is a special telescope with image enhancer.

Weak natural light is emitted through the target surface, enters the night vision device, and is focused on the photocathode surface of the image intensifier (coinciding with the back focal surface of the objective lens) under the action of the objective lens to excite photoelectrons. The photoelectrons are accelerated, focused and imaged by the electronic optical system inside the image enhancement tube, bombarding the fluorescent screen of the image enhancer at a high speed and generating visible light with sufficient intensity to transform a distant target illuminated only by weak natural light into visible light image suitable form human eyes to observe. After further magnification of the eyepiece, more effective visual observation is achieved. The above process includes two conversions from optical image to electronic image to optical image.

B. Applicable Environment

Low-light night vision goggles has been equipped with the army, sea and air forces, such as binocular or monocular night vision glasses, helmet sight and medium-range weapon sights carried by individual soldiers. As a soldier's nighttime super-vision eye, it can observe, search, track and identify from far and near. It also can be installed on the aircraft to greatly improve the pilot’s observation at night and help the aircraft to land.

Low-light vision goggles is one of the important means in the nation security work such as the night patrol, detection, and evidence collection of public security, the security departments, the night monitoring of important materials and warehouse such as banks and the fight against criminals.

Low-light night vision goggles is also widely used in industrial fields, such as chemical industry, marine resource survey, ocean fishing, etc.

In the field of medicine and health, low-light night vision goggles is often used for image capture and enhancement and scientific research.
